HACCP Awareness for Food Handlers

Do your staff know what HACCP is all about?
Rutherford Technical Services has developed a program to ‘de-mystify’ HACCP and to explain to frontline food handlers:
an overview of the HACCP system and how it applies to them
- how HACCP affects the tasks staff carry out on a daily basis
Staff also have professional support with access to the RTS Helpdesk, both during the program and into the future, to answer any food safety or related questions.

Who is the program for?
Rutherford Technical Services has developed this training program specifically to meet the requirements of food handling staff working in a range of food service settings, including:
kitchen Managers & Supervisors
aged care kitchen staff
health care kitchen staff
child care kitchen staff
respite services kitchen staff
home & community care kitchen staff
- kitchen volunteers (working in canteens, Meals on Wheels, aged care and respite services, etc.)
What are the program outcomes?
The program has been developed to provide food handlers, especially with no prior formal HACCP education, with the essential skills and knowledge needed to understand HACCP and how they contribute to HACCP requirements.
On completion of the program, your staff will be able to:
understand the purpose of HACCP and its origins
identify the main parts of a HACCP program
- effectively participate in food safety reporting and recording
How is the program completed?
The program is completed in a half day session (4 hours).
It is preferable that participants have an understanding of food safety concepts (including types of contamination, high risk foods, microbes, etc.). Participants should also have an understanding of kitchen operations and any existing Food Safety Plan.
Participants are provided with a set of bound course notes that are laser colour printed and in an easy-to-read format (text size, index, etc.). The training is delivered on site in a training room or similar using a PowerPoint presentation, along with other aides and activities are completed during the session.
Is there a test or a certificate?
Yes. After the training participants are asked to complete a written assessment that consists of practical:
multiple choice
- short answer questions
The workbook is then assessed by our qualified team and feedback given. If successful, participants are issued with a Certificate of Completion listing the topics covered.
If our assessors feel that the answers given are lacking, we contact the participant to complete the questions verbally.
If your staff require accredited training, please contact us for more detailed information. Usually we will need a third party report (the pro-forma is provided by Rutherford) and possibly some additional assessment material.
Once the assessment material has been reviewed we issue a Statement of Attainment, that has the accredited training logos and is the same as a TAFE qualification.
What is the cost?
The cost of the program will depend on a number of factors:
the total number of participants
whether accredited training is required
- if you are located outside the Sydney metro area
In order for us to provide you with an accurate cost, please contact us with the above information for a customised quote. We will also need your:
name/title and organisation
- contact details
