Do your staff have the infection control knowledge they need?
Rutherford Technical Services has developed the ‘Essential’ training programs to benchmark skills and knowledge of your support services staff which:
provide kitchen and support staff with the infection control education they need
- is targeted and relevant to work roles in a ‘vulnerable persons’ environment
Staff also have professional support with access to the RTS Helpdesk, both during the program and into the future, to answer any work related questions.

Who is the program for?
Rutherford Technical Services has developed these training programs to meet the requirements of kitchen and support staff working in a range of food service settings, including:
aged care staff
health care staff
multi-tasking staff (working in food, cleaning, laundry, etc.)
food handling staff (food retailers, franchises, etc.)
child care staff
respite services staff
home & community care staff
canteen staff
- kitchen volunteers (working in canteens, Meals on Wheels, aged care and respite services, etc.)
What are the program outcomes?
The ‘Essential’ training programs have been developed to provide food handlers and non-food handlers with easy-to-understand information about effective infection control that relates to their everyday activities.
On completion of the program, your staff will be able to:
understand the importance of infection control
identify high risk people and environments
prevent contamination in food and other sensitive environments
- effectively use infection control techniques
How is the program completed?
The program is completed in a 3 hour session.
Participants should have an understanding of everyday workplace operations (caring, food handling, cleaning, laundry, etc.), with regards to the work tasks they carry out.
Participants are provided with a set of bound course notes that are laser colour printed and in an easy-to-read format (text size, index, etc.). The training is delivered on site in a training room or similar using a PowerPoint presentation, along with other aides and activities are completed during the session.
Is there a test or a certificate?
Yes. After the training participants are asked to complete a written assessment that consists of practical:
multiple choice
- short answer questions
The workbook is then assessed by our qualified team and feedback given. If successful, participants are issued with a Certificate of Completion listing the topics covered.
If our assessors feel that the answers given are lacking, we contact the participant to complete the questions verbally.
If your staff require accredited training, please contact us for more detailed information. Usually we will need a third party report (the pro-forma is provided by Rutherford) and possibly some additional assessment material.
Once the assessment material has been reviewed we issue a Statement of Attainment, that has the accredited training logos and is the same as a TAFE qualification.
What is the cost?
The cost of the program will depend on a number of factors:
the total number of participants
whether accredited training is required
- if you are located outside the Sydney metro area
In order for us to provide you with an accurate cost, please contact us with the above information for a customised quote. We will also need your:
name/title and organisation
- contact details
