The Occupational Health and Safety Act (2000) plus the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation 2001, which were proclaimed to take effect from 1st September 2001, aim to protect the health, safety and welfare of people in the workplace.

This legislation and regulation mean that both employees and employers have significant responsibilities for OH&S in the workplace.
