TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT
Rutherford Technical Services Pty Ltd has Training and Assessment practices that allow for high professional standards in presentation and assessment of programs and competence.
All staff are suitably qualified (a minimum of Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training) and have proven successful experience in the areas of operation for which they are making presentations. All course information is thoroughly examined before each presentation to ensure that you are able to obtain the most practical and 'best practice' information.
Rutherford Technical Services Pty Ltd uses approved learning resources. In the case of in-house work all course material is tailored to meet the needs of the workplace including relevant case studies.
Training resources can be delivered using a number of different methods depending upon the participant and client needs. Training needs are assessed through network, industry associations, company visits and course participant feedback.
Participant selection for admission into a training program will only be required if there are prerequisites for that program. Enrolment in a training or assessment program involves completing an enrolment form and possibly an RPL request (see the RPL description on page 4).
Enrolment details are entered into the Rutherford Technical Services Pty Ltd Participant database and RPL requests are assessed. Once this is completed the participant will attend an induction session where the program, the participants responsibilities and the trainers responsibilities will be explained in detail.
All assessments carried out by Rutherford Technical Services Pty Ltd follow the guidelines set out by the 1996 Ministerial Council (MINCO) Guidelines for Assessment. The assessments must be:
- Reliable
- Fair
- Valid
- Sufficient
- Authentic
- Flexible
To ensure that these guidelines are followed, the assessment program includes two or more of the following assessment methods. Other methods will be developed if these methods are not suitable.- Observation in the workplace
- Oral questioning
- Written assessments
- Simulated workplace
- Peer assessment
In addition, participants and/or clients are involved throughout the planning of the Training and Assessment Program so that specific training needs can be identified and are addressed. Rutherford Technical Services Pty Ltd uses flexible learning and assessment processes therefore if a method of training or assessment is not meeting the needs of the client or participant, it will be redesigned to ensure participants are comfortable being involved and they can achieve the desired outcome
You will be provided with a Training and Assessment plan at the commencement of the training. Your trainer will discuss this information during the induction session and with you at the first one on one meeting.
Participants can request to see their personal file that Rutherford Technical Services Pty Ltd holds at any time. Ask your trainer to organise a time so that you can view the files.
ASSESSMENT APPEALS AND PARTICIPANT GRIEVANCES
Participants involved in the training and assessment programs have the right to appeal the assessment decision and request a reassessment at a later time if reasonable grounds are demonstrated for challenging the original outcome.
The Rutherford Technical Services Pty Ltd appeals procedure endeavours to provide a constructive mechanism to resolve a disputed assessment and to provide support services to the participant to enable them to achieve competence.
Any participant with a grievance should make it know to their trainer or assessor who will record the details of the grievance and the relevant contact details. They will then endeavour to solve the problem and inform the participant of the result.
Participants that are unable to either attend or receive products and services are given the choice of a range of options. This ensures that you receive alternate products or services to the agreed value or that your expenditure is refunded.
The range of options includes the following: - A replacement person on the course.
- A place on a later course.
- Rutherford Technical Services courses/products and services to the value of the course.
If none of the above is suitable a 90% refund by cheque will be made (a 10% administration fee is charged).
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
To ensure continuous improvement and to maintain the high standards of training and assessment, Rutherford Technical Services Pty Ltd asks the participant and client to provide feedback on the effectiveness of the training and assessment. In addition to this Rutherford Technical Services Pty Ltd reviews its training and assessment programs and tools annually.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)
Participants that have completed whole or part credentials or possess adequate knowledge and experience can request a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
To verify this knowledge or skill an assessment program is developed. The assessment program involves at least two methods of assessment and the results are recorded.
Every participant has the opportunity to apply for an RPL. The RPL assessment is based upon the relevant competencies set out in the relevant training package under the AQF (Australian Qualifications Framework). Rutherford Technical Services uses mutual recognition of qualifications issued by other RTOs, providing they are relevant and meet all the requirements (AQF, Training Package etc).
If you have relevant knowledge or experience gained through previous study or work,
please let your trainer know and they will supply you with an RPL Application form.
